Case of the Month

Meet 'Snowy' - Snowy is owned by one of our vets and was noticed to be lame in his right hindleg a few months ago. We were suspicious of a ruptured cruciate ligament (ligament providing stability to the knee joint) but were unable to confirm this with our usual joint movement tests. When strict rest failed to improve his symptoms, he was taken to see an orthopaedic surgeon in Melbourne for a second opinion. There, our suspicions were confirmed with a partial tear to his cruciate ligament being diagnosed. Given Snow is 23kg, he was most suited to a TPLO surgery; where the angle of the knee joint is altered to reduce strain on the ligament and stabilise his joint. Snow has spent the last few weeks slowly recovering - the biggest problem now is keeping him from running and jumping whilst his bone heals!
